Rumor has it, Grammy-winning singer LeAnn Rimes will tie the knot to actor Eddie Cibrian on Saturday, April 23, in LA.

Given that it?s the second wedding for both LeAnn and Eddie (LeAnn?s divorce from Dean Sheremet was finalized in June, and Eddie officially divorced Brandi Glanville in September) and the salacious circumstances surrounding their courtship ? the pair were still married when they had an affair while filming Northern Lights in 2008 ? the couple has managed to keep mum on many wedding details.

LeAnn has admitted, ?I?ve found a designer.? And she?s insisted on a huge wedding party, which will include Eddie?s two sons with Brandi ? Mason, 7, and Jake, 4 ? and his best friend?s wife.

According to an insider, they are expected to invite around 100 guests to the nuptials.

Martial arts choke holds are no joke. We’ve talked about that repeatedly after watching television and radio hosts asking MMA fighters to slap on the holds for a photo opportunity. The rear-naked or guillotine choke is a potentially lethal move if not treated with care. Just ask Alex Montalvo, who’s in the center of a firestorm in New Jersey.

Back in July of 2010, Montalvo fought off a burglar, slapped on a submission hold and left Douglas Uhler unconscious on the street. Uhler never fully recovered and died yesterday at 19 years old.

On July 31 at 3:39 a.m. in Bridgewater, N.J., Montalvo and his wife heard their car alarm go off. The 42-year-old ran to the street, identified two suspects and chased them to the next block.

With one punch, he knocked out Brian Johnston, 18. That’s when Uhler emerged:

Uhler ran out from nearby bushes and shouted: "You want a piece of me, (expletive)?!"

Uhler jumped on Montalvo, who put him in a submission hold, Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano said. The move blocked the teen’s oxygen flow, causing a brain injury, Soriano said.

Uhler was taken to Somerset Medical Center and later treated at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center. He never fully recovered from the injuries:

A once-strapping high school football player, Uhler spent his days in bed or in a wheelchair. He had to be fed through a tube, according to court records. He was non-vocal and unable to walk, sit or roll. He also had poor head control. Uhler had been in and out of several hospitals, including the Children’s Specialized Hospital and the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation.

Back in December, a grand jury indicted Uhler and Johnston on third-degree burglary charges. Johnson pleaded guilty and is awaiting charges. The Uhler family wants Montalvo in a courtroom next, claiming he used excessive force to subdue their son.

"New Jersey law allows you to defend your physical self as well as your property," said Jenny Carroll, an associate professor at Seton Hall Law School. "You’re allowed to kill people under certain circumstances, particularly self-defense. If I jump on you, you’re allowed to do what is required to make me stop hurting you. But if I pause, you can’t just start kicking me in the head."

Carroll said there are no clear-cut answers.

"Here’s the trick in this case ? did the homeowner exceed the need to protect his property?" she said. "If the kids are still in the process of taking the homeowner’s property, then he has a right to defend his property and to use force. The prosecutor must decide whether the homeowner used justifiable force, and whether it was reasonable.

"Even in the heat of passion, if you’re trying to subdue someone, it isn’t reasonable to kill them," Carroll said.

The response to the story on NJ.com has been heated.

PrivateCitizen:

Self Defense means you are in imminent danger. This man chased these teens down. They were running FROM him. This man needs to go to prison. He is not the hero vigilante some people here think he is!

The attempted theft did not directly lead to the confrontation, his chasing them down did. Any 12 men or women will know that difference.

drock:

So is it wrong to defend one’s property? What if this kid got passed out in the sleeper hold and then later recovered and didn’t die? The act of putting one in a sleeper hold that you find robbing your car in the middle of the night doesn’t exactly seem punishable to me…….you can’t punish based on result or consequence but should punish based on action. In my opinion he didnt’ do anything wrong and most people would chase down any if they caught them red handed too.

Some commenters even pointed to the rise of MMA as a reason for this tragedy.

mgm8822:

With the new popularity of MMA, every punk who has taken a martial arts class and learned how to throw a punch or put someone in a choke hold thinks they have the right to kick anyone’s ass for any reason. We have a lot of unstable people walking around nowadays who are trained in the use of lethal force.

The Uhler family said their son had plans of attending William Patterson University, where he was looking to study sports medicine.

MMA skills used to fight crime took center stage in the last few months when UFC champion Jon Jones and his trainers subdued a burglar in Paterson, N.J. in late March. In mid-February, MMA fan Joe Lozito helped police catch an alleged serial stabber on a New York City Subway.

Reese Witherspoon had that newlywed glow at the Water For Elephants premiere in NYC! When In Touch asked Reese, 35, how it felt to be married again (she wed agent Jim Toth, 40, in a celeb-studded ceremony three weeks ago), she beamed and said, ?It?s great!?

Unfortunately, her co-star, Robert Pattinson, forgot to get her a wedding present! When reporters asked if Robert had sent her anything, she joked, ?Not yet, and you can tell him I am waiting!?

And when In Touch followed up with Robert and asked him if he had picked anything for Reese, he sheepishly ran his fingers through his famous mop of hair and laughed, ?Not yet!?

Fortunately, Reese won?t hold it against him. ?Not only is he super- sexy and sweet and handsome,? Reese raved of her co-star, ?he?s a really lovely and nice person.?

Robert?s love and Twilight co-star, Kristen Stewart, didn?t join him on the carpet, but Robert made it a family affair and came with his mom, dad and sisters. When In Touch asked Rob?s dad if he always thought his son would be a tremendous success, he smiled and said, ?Not really! No!?

Good looks and a good sense of humor must run in their family!

by Michael David SmithFor the second consecutive Saturday night, Bellator has the mixed martial arts spotlight to itself, as Bellator 42 is the weekend’s only major MMA card. The big question facing Bellator is whether the match-ups they’ve put together will result in the kind of exciting card that will get fans buzzing, and create a little momentum for the promotion heading into the home stretch of its fourth season.

Bellator 42 took a hit when Paul Buentello suffered an injury and had to pull out of his fight with Bellator heavyweight champion Cole Konrad, so whatever attention this card can garner will come from the semifinals of the light heavyweight tournament, and the promotional debut of Ronnie Mann.

Here are the basics on Saturday night’s card:

What: Bellator 42

Where: Lucky Star Casino, Concho, Oklahoma

When: Saturday, the MTV2 broadcast starts at 9 PM ET.

Predictions on the three main card fights below.

Cagewriter already wrote about the three biggest fight stars from Strikeforce’s show on Saturday night, but we can agree that the true breakout star from the fights was referee Mike Beltran and his mustache.

That is a work of art. He could braid his mustache into a loop, and have his own facial door knocker. He could tie each end in a bow across his mouth to protest censorship, saving money on duct tape. He could attach his glasses to his mustache, thereby eliminating the need for a glasses chain. He could have signaled the draw in the Mousasi-Jardine match by holding up both ends of the mustache.

After the death of Steve Mazzagatti’s mustache, the MMA world was in search of fantastic facial hair to take its place. Sure, Antonio Banuelos stepped up, but we needed more. Thanks, Mike Beltran, for filling that need.

UPDATE: Tracy Lee shared a picture of the ‘stache in action from one of the undercard fights. Dare I say, it is glorious.

Thanks to Fightlinker for the top image.

by Michael David SmithNick Diaz defended his welterweight title against Paul Daley. In one of the best one-round fights in the history of mixed martial arts, Nick Diaz and Paul Daley pummeled each other for just under five minutes of back-and-forth action, with Diaz surviving multiple hard shots from Daley and eventually rocked Daley himself and finished Daley off by technical knockout with only three seconds remaining in the first round.

It was a great main event, and Diaz retained his Strikeforce welterweight title with his 10th consecutive victory.

The fight was an absolute thriller, and one that showed once again just how tough Diaz is: Daley is an incredibly powerful puncher, but Diaz took the best Daley had and answered every time.

But this week’s episode of the UFC’s reality show focused almost as much on Nijem’s personality outside the cage, where his habits — including painting his toenails and watching Glee — make him something very different from the stereotypical cage fighter.

In his weekly interview with MMAFighting.com, Nijem talked about his victory over Rader, shed a little more light on his personality outside the cage, and shared his thoughts on advancing to the next round of this season’s Ultimate Fighter tournament.

It’s the deepest class in the world, so much so that the top of the 155-pound division could be turned on its ear by this time next year. UFC champion Frank Edgar escaped with his title after fighting to a draw against Gray Maynard at UFC 125. Edgar’s a great fighter, but people doubt him because of his size and lack of finishing prowess. With challengers coming at him from all directions, will Edgar still be the No. 1 lightweight in the world in Apr. of 2012?

Maynard, Anthony Pettis, Gilbert Melendez and Jim Miller are probably all two wins away from being the undisputed top dog in the division.  With a hot 2011, Sean Sherk, Shinya Aoki, Melvin Guillard, Clay Guida, George Sotiropoulos and Evan Dunham could all force their way into the picture as well. Additional wild cards include Ben Henderson and Eddie Alvarez, if he can escape Bellator. Now that’s depth.

Melendez certainly did his part last weekend against Tatsuya Kawajiri. He wasn’t going to let judges screw up his first fight in front of Zuffa management. The Strikeforce lightweight champ made sure of that by unleashing a fury of elbows, knees and punches at Kawajiri.

Melendez is knocking at the UFC door for a fight against Edgar, Pettis, Maynard and the rest of the elite crew in the bigger fight promotion.

Melendez says his camp might be the best in the world. Looking at his competition with the "Skrap Pack," it’s hard to disagree.

"It’s discouraging in camp training with Nick [Diaz], Jake [Shields] and Nate [Diaz]," Melendez told HDNet’s Inside MMA. "You question yourself, ‘am I ready for this fight?’ You know, you have these bad days. I’m getting smashed by these guys sometimes. And then you doubt yourself. And then you walk in there and you dominate, and then you realize that’s how great your team is. We’re evolving and we always constantly raise the bar against each other."

Yahoo!’s lead MMA writer Kevin Iole joined us to debate the future odds on an Edgar-Melendez fight and how he’d matchup against some of the other elite lightweights.

Here’s my top 10 in Apr. of 2012:

1. Gilbert Melendez

2. Frank Edgar

3. Eddie Alvarez

4. Jim Miller

5. Anthony Pettis

6. Melvin Guillard

7. Gray Maynard

8. George Sotiropoulos

9. Ben Henderson

10. Evan Dunham

As if my ego needed another boost. Last month at SXSW, I had the opportunity to interview Senator Al Franken, who was speaking at the conference to discuss the importance of Net Neutrality. The interview went well (I doubt you can tell he was my first Senator), and as I walked out of the room Senator Franken slapped me on the back and said I had a bright future ahead of me. Instead of responding with one of my famed witticisms I mumbled something about keeping my fingers crossed and went on my way, only to begin cursing myself a few moments later. One of the most level-headed members of the United States Senate had just complimented me ? and I had failed to ask for it in writing. Bright future, indeed.

After a short break, the UFC’s middleweight division has a ton of good fights falling into place. Today, the UFC announced Yoshihiro Akiyama is back and he’ll face Vitor Belfort. Belfort is badly in need of a big win after getting booted in the face and losing to Anderson Silva back in February at UFC 126.

Akiyama and Belfort will square off at UFC 133 in Philadelphia in early August. Akiyama (13-3, 1-2 UFC) last fought in October at UFC 120. "Sexyama" was submitted in the final minutes against Chris Leben. He’s lost two straight, but he’s also garnered Fight of the Night awards his last three times out.

Here’s a look at the rest of the scheduled bouts for 185ers near the top of the UFC’s middleweight division.

UFC 130: Brian Stann vs. Jorge Santiago

UFC 131: Demian Maia vs. Mark Munoz

UFC 132: Wanderlei Silva vs. Chris Leben

UFC 134: Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami

We’re still waiting for the next shoe to drop on middleweight bad boys Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping. Sonnen has to sit down with the Nevada State Athletic Commission in mid-May. The UFC has been tight-lipped about the actual penalty it handed down to Bisping for his spitting incident at UFC 127. One would think, he’ll be back in the Octagon no later than July or August. Alan Belcher recently announced that he’s ready to return in September.

The division lost one its bigger names with Nate Marquardt dropping to 170, where he’ll debut against Anthony Johnson as the main event at UFC on Versus 4 in Pittsburgh in late June.

Traditionally, middleweight has been one of the promotion’s weaker divisions. That could change once Strikeforce fighters like Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, Tim Kennedy, Jason Miller and Robbie Lawler start crossing over.

Update:  That didn’t take long. Miller has officially signed a deal with the UFC.

For latest single “Just Can’t Get Enough,” the Black Eyed Peas ended up making a video love letter to Japan. The group had shot the clip — complete with glitzy shots of the Asian country — just before an earthquake and tsunami struck. The sentiment they feel for the video very much mirrors the emotion that went into making the song.

“We’re emotionally attached to it because we recorded the video in Japan five days before this whole thing went down, and it’s like the type of song that gets to you in your heart,” Taboo told MTV News when we caught up with the group at Terminal 5 in New York, where they were taping a show set to air tonight at midnight ET on MTV.

The song is a sugary-sweet dance track about being infatuated with that special someone. “The message is knowing that when you’re gone from somebody, especially when you’re on tour, you can’t get enough of them or you’re just thinking about them and you just want to let them know that you’re always there for them,” Taboo explained.

The band released the video last month, and they say they could never have known how much it would mean to them. “It was the easiest video I ever shot, because it was us living our lives,” Fergie said at the time. “I love that it’s showing a true perspective of how it can sometimes be lonely on the road away from our loved ones. It also demonstrates the love and connection we have with Japan. Our heart goes out to all of the Japanese people who have been affected by this natural disaster.”

Don’t miss the Black Eyed Peas’ performance tonight at midnight ET on MTV.

Chael Sonnen has not had a good 2011. The former UFC middleweight contender was fined $10,000 and given two years probation on a money laundering charge. He was suspended by the UFC. In applying to the Nevada State Athletic Commission for a fight license after he failed a drug test in California, he ticked off Keith Kizer, the head of the NSAC, which puts his chance of getting a license in jeopardy.

Has all this humbled Sonnen? Convinced him to quiet down and quit talking trash? Not a chance. On Monday’s MMA Hour on MMA Fighting, he didn’t mince words.

"I called them up and said, ‘Give me the worst guy you’ve got under contract,’" he said. "They said, ‘Chael, Wanderlei [Silva] won’t fight you.’ I said, ‘Alright. Give me the second worst guy you’ve got under contract?’ They said, ‘Chael, how many times do we have to tell you: [Mirko] Cro Cop’s a heavyweight.’ I said, ‘Alright, is there anybody available? How about Bisping? Is his dance card open? And then they said that might be a possibility. So that’s where we left off. But that’s just not my focus. My focus is making things right with director Kizer."

Ah, there’s the Chael we know and tolerate. Ripping people he can’t possibly fight because of their fight obligations — Silva is facing Chris Leben at UFC 132 — or the fact that they outweigh Sonnen by at least 50 lbs.

Next, he rips light heavyweights for not calling out Jon Jones enough.

"The hot topic that everybody should be talking about is that he’s been the champion for three weeks and not one coward at 205 has challenged him. Not one guy has called him out and said, ‘I want to fight that guy.’ If you’re all scared of a 23-year-old kid, turn your gloves in, sign your pink slip and show yourself the door."

That ignores the fact that most of the top light heavyweights have a fight in front of them, or just completed one. Of the MMA Weekly Top 10 205 lbers, three (Machida, Bader and Jackson) have fights in the next three months. Jones and Rua just fought, Dan Henderson isn’t in the UFC, Thiago Silva is suspended and Rashad Evans is already slated to fight Jones. That leaves Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, who just lost to Phil Davis, or Forrest Griffin.

Fine, Chael. Why hasn’t Griffin called out Jones? Perhaps it’s because he knew that Evans was already going to fight Jones and a "call out" would be a waste of breath?

That’s just Chael being Chael. But to put the rough start of 2011 behind him, Sonnen might consider how running his mouth got him into trouble with the NSAC. Albert Einstein said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Maybe it’s time for a change, Chael.

Amanda Lucas, daughter of the famed filmmaker George Lucas, will fight again this Saturday at Freestyle Cage Fighting in Oklahoma on a card headlined by UFC veteran Matt Grice and well-known female fighter Erin Toughill.

Lucas is 1-1, winning her last fight via decision in 2009. She had been on an extended layoff from the cage while she focused on improving technically and getting married, telling MMA Fighting that she didn’t want to walk down the aisle "looking like a battered woman." You would think that her father could probably connect her with a good make-up artist.

Lucas trains at Fairtex in San Francisco as well as Gilbert Melendez’s Skrap Pack team and Cesar Gracie Academy. She also had a knee injury, but has spent the last six months training and rehabbing.

"I am really excited for this fight," she said. "I was originally scheduled to fight in February, but I suffered a partially torn MCL and PCL during my training camp. I have basically been either training or rehabbing my knee for the past six months. I am looking forward to fighting, taking a week off, and then getting back into the gym. I am in great shape, well prepared and am ready to test myself on Saturday."

Lucas has made cameos in her father’s movies, including all three "Star Wars" prequels.

Hopefully, her father will get inspiration from her daughter’s fight experiences and give MMA the cinematic treatment it deserves. MMA on the Death Star? Indiana Jones and the Octagon of Doom? Or Lucas could return to his roots and make an "American Graffiti" -eseque film about fighting. Instead of chronicling teenage boys and their last night before college — and a bunch of boss cars — Lucas could take a look at a day leading up to a fight.

It would be better than many of the cliche-ridden treatments Hollywood has given MMA in the past. Help us Amanda Lucas! You’re our only hope!

The mixed martial arts world is fired up for the UFC to hit Brazil. The sport, built upon the backs of great Brazilian fighters like Royce Gracie, is still on the fringe in his homeland. The UFC has a chance to make it mainstream.

Once the Olympics announced it would hold the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, the UFC decided it was time to make a push in Brazil. Rumors began swirling immediately that Gracie would fight on the card.

He was the champion, in a tournament-style format, back at UFC 1 and UFC 2. Gracie was the smallest fighter in the field. That was 1993 and 1994. He’s 44 years old now without a professional fight since 2007.  Gracie wants the chance to close his career in the Octagon and it sounds like the UFC is willing to give him the opportunity:

"It would be the perfect place to do my last fight," Gracie told UOL Esportes (via Bloody Elbow). "I never fought in Rio de Janeiro and I couldn’t be more psyched. We are negotiating [the fight deal], but we should have it finalized in two weeks. We only had an initial contact and I don’t even have an opponent yet, but we should have that finalized soon … My weight is the same as it was twenty years ago [80kg], I am still training, keeping the blade sharp. I follow a very strict diet. I never drank, never party, Carnival, none of that… I’m ready to fight"

There’s also rumors that his cousin Renzo, 43, will fight on the card as well. It may be a feel good moment for a few seconds when they enter the Octagon, but it seems like the UFC could be walking a fine line with this one.

In 2006, Royce was never in his fight against Matt Hughes at UFC 60. Hughes grounded and TKO’d him in just 4:39. Renzo was slightly better against Hughes, losing at UFC 112. But it doesn’t appear either should be in there with anything resembling a top 20 welterweight.

UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson was tweeting last night asking fans for their opinion on a Royce fight:

Nelson’s "on the juice" mention was a reference to Gracie’s positive steroid test following his last fight against Kazushi Sakaraba.

Eliminate Matt Serra from the list of candidates. Serra, a Gracie fighting disciple, isn’t going to cross his mentor Renzo to fight a member of the family. The other names are puzzling. Could Royce really be competitive against Dan Hardy or Amir Sadollah?

Of course I came to a screeching halt because there was a lady getting our of her car WITH A MONKEY ON HER SHOULDERS, and that’s just something you don’t see every day.

I proceeded to take a photo…

I mean, for real, let’s put this into perspective.

Anywho, here’s another photo of the lady and her monkey at the checkout counter:
