Michael BeasleyORLANDO, Fla. — This might a great opportunity for Michael Beasley to expand his game — that wouldn’t have happened for him in Miami — but it’s going to be a painful one.

The Minnesota Timberwolves just can’t be much worse right now.

Beasley, the talented but often enigmatic forward, didn’t play in Wednesday’s record-setting 42-point loss to the Magic. And he played only 10 minutes after getting hurt in Tuesday’s 32-point loss to the Heat, making him see just how far he has fallen.

He might be on the verge of maturing into a solid NBA player, but he’ll have to do it in virtual anonymity this season, with a team facing a long rebuilding process.

If he hadn’t been traded from Miami this summer for just two second-round draft picks to help create space for the Heat’s new supporting cast, he might have been part of the Super Season in South Florida.

Instead, he will be preparing for beatdowns like this. The Timberwolves lost the last two games by a combined 74 points. The Magic set a franchise record by scoring 78 points in the first half.
